Mindbowser built a detailed migration roadmap for cost efficiency, performance, and scalability, executed under AWS MAP for architecture review, credits, and tooling support.
The team adjusted database configurations to resolve MSSQL assembly and API restrictions against AWS security standards, and worked through VPC and networking discrepancies between the Azure and AWS environments. Data migration required accounting for Azure's unmanaged disk constraints, and authentication and compliance work was scoped to reach full HIPAA adherence. Historical audit data was migrated without loss to preserve the audit trail, and IP whitelisting was coordinated with an external e-prescribing network partner to keep that integration live through the cutover.
Infrastructure costs dropped 30 to 40% through Reserved Instances, EC2 Spot for batch processing, and S3 Intelligent-Tiering. Database query latency fell from 120ms on Azure to under 80ms on AWS Aurora, a 33% improvement. A one hour trace test on the largest client database, 16 vCPUs, 64GB RAM, and 1500GB storage, showed 3 vCPUs and roughly 4GB RAM in use on a single run, and roughly 7 vCPUs and 6GB RAM under parallel load. The resulting infrastructure is HIPAA-compliant and aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework, and the internal IT team now has full control to manage, monitor, and scale operations directly.
The migration ran under AWS MAP, which provided architecture review, AWS credits, Snowball and DataSync tooling, and alignment with AWS ProServe. That structure supported HIPAA-grade security controls across the new environment, including KMS encryption for databases and a network layout built to keep patient and operational data compliant end to end.
