A community marketing app connecting patrons with nearby businesses through geolocation discovery, local deals, and reviews had a session bug forcing repeat logins, a slow contact-based invite flow, and inconsistent image display across a fragmented range of Android and iOS devices. We ran a sprint-based engagement with the overseas founder to fix the technical debt and validate a new UI direction.

Delivered
No client-confirmed metrics were supplied for this engagement, so outcomes are stated as capabilities delivered rather than measured figures.
A discovery app built for repeat, casual use was instead fighting its users at every session, while a fragmented device landscape and an overseas founder added friction on both the engineering and communication sides.
Users were forced to log back in every time they left and reopened the app, a poor fit for a discovery app meant for casual, repeat use.
The Invite feature pulled contacts directly from the device on demand, and the resulting load time was slow enough to hurt onboarding.
Running across a fragmented range of Android and iOS devices made it difficult to maintain a consistent image aspect ratio for content.
Video and image uploads, core to a community content-sharing app, were slow and put unnecessary strain on device storage.
With the founder based overseas, communication and alignment had to be deliberate rather than incidental.
Built and hardened on a React Native codebase already in production.
We fixed the session-timeout bug by adding a class file to the original codebase, removing the repeated login prompts that were degrading day-to-day use of the app.
We calculated image aspect ratios per device pixel ratio so content displayed correctly across a wide range of Android and iOS devices, and integrated a video compressor to speed up uploads while preserving quality and reducing on-device storage use.
We ran a design sprint with the founder, including in-person collaboration time, to pressure-test the product vision and A/B test layout options. The result was a card/tile-based UI, chosen through structured testing rather than opinion.
With the founder based overseas, we used JIRA and Slack for daily standups and async communication, keeping the overseas founder and the development team tightly aligned through delivery.
