A referral introduction brought Mindbowser onto a physician credentialing platform built by an orthopedic spine surgeon and an interventional cardiologist. Mindbowser stayed on as the engineering team from the 2018 idea stage through a full product and mobile app launch in early 2020, rebuilding a monolith into an API architecture without a single minute of downtime.

The team grew as the roadmap required it, and the monolith-to-API migration never took the platform offline for the physicians already depending on it.
Application downtime during the full monolith-to-API architectural migration
Developers across backend, Angular, and mobile at peak, up from a 3-person start in 2018
Before the platform, physicians pieced together renewal deadlines by hand, and the system meant to fix that had to encode more complexity than it looked like on the surface.
Doctors juggled spreadsheets, emails from state boards, and calendar reminders that didn't talk to each other, leaving renewal deadlines to be tracked by hand during an already full patient schedule.
Hundreds of physician types across 50 states, each with its own specialty-to-state licensing rules, combine into thousands of unique credential workflows that all had to resolve correctly.
The original application served plain HTML from a monolith. An API-based architecture was non-negotiable for a mobile app to exist, but the platform couldn't go offline while doctors depended on it for real deadlines.
A two-person, physician-led startup needed engineers who could start immediately, not six months out after running a hiring process they didn't have time for.
The tools behind a rules engine, a national provider database, and a mobile app built on the same API foundation.
Mindbowser started in 2018 with one backend developer, one Angular frontend developer, and a part-time tester, sized to what an idea-stage product needed rather than what it would eventually require. As the platform moved from concept to launch, the team grew to two backend developers, two Angular developers, three mobile developers, and one full-time tester.
The existing application served HTML directly from a monolith. Mindbowser rebuilt it into an Angular-based API architecture while the platform stayed live and accessible to the physicians already using it, with no maintenance windows and no downtime notices. Doctors mid-renewal cycle never saw an interruption.
Mindbowser implemented a rules engine covering hundreds of physician types across all 50 states, resolving the correct renewal path for every specialty-state-license combination. Separately, the team built and maintained an NPI provider database by parsing and merging data from hundreds of external sources into a single, coherent dataset that the credentialing logic depends on to identify physicians accurately.
Once the API layer existed, building iOS and Android apps on top of it moved faster than it would have from a standing start, because the earlier refactoring work had already anticipated mobile as a requirement. Delivery ran on daily standups and weekly showcase demos across a distributed team working with the client's leadership across multiple time zones, which meant overlap windows had to be planned deliberately.
Mindbowser augments healthcare product teams from idea stage through national launch, without downtime and without slowing down for a hiring cycle.
